Dan Hartman Septet

May 19 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Dan Hartman Septet presents:

“Not Your Standard Standards”: An evening of high-energy contemporary jazz tunes, some of which are Dan’s original compositions, and others are compositions by some of New York’s current leading jazz composers. And, of course, some “not-so-standard” arrangements of jazz classics by Lee Morgan, Charles Mingus and others. As explained by Dan: “The seven-piece band is my favorite platform for playing jazz. It allows for complex, rich harmonies, and the big sound of four horns, while at the same time allowing plenty of opportunities for all the guys to solo. The arrangements we play are eclectic. I enjoy adding some “ethnic” world music sounds to the arrangements: some “Slavic” feel, some New Orleans feel, and of course, straight-ahead swing and Latin feels. But all the arrangements are designed to bring out the energy of the four horns, and a big “funky” sound, which I love. And the improvisation solo, the very heart and soul of jazz, is a prominent feature. It will surely be a memorable night.”

Dan Hartman: trumpet, flugelhorn, euphonium

Frank Procaccini: alto sax, flute

Cedric Mayfield: tenor sax, soprano sax, clarinet

Sean Nelson: trombone

Robert Langslet: piano

Bryan Rizzuto: bass

Randy Cloutier: drums
