Giacomo Gates – Jazz for Juvenile Diabestes
March 9 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm$150.00
The 22nd annual Jazz for Juvenile Diabetes benefit will take place on Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall in West Hartford Center. This year’s performer is Giacomo Gates. Tickets are $150 per person and included a fabulous evening with 2 sets of music, appetizers, dinner, wine, beer and soft drinks as well as coffee and dessert.
Giacomo Gates does more than sing “a bunch of songs.” He is truly an entertainer, for all ages and styles. Audiences enjoy the music, the interaction on the bandstand between him and his musicians, the spontaneity, the humor, the stories about the music and composers, along with their relation to everyday life. People are smiling, having a good time, while thoroughly enjoying the music. What usually lacks in most of today’s performances is obviously present … fun!
The criteria for defining jazz singing will probably be argued for the rest of time. But no matter which side of the argument one may be on, there can be no doubt that Giacomo Gates is an authentic jazz vocalist. Heavily steeped in the traditions of the original vocal improvisers from Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald through their modern counterparts Betty Carter and Leon Thomas, Giacomo’s own approach draws most heavily from the bebop-rooted masters like Jon Hendricks, Babs Gonzales, King Pleasure and most of all, Eddie Jefferson. Like his influences, Gates has forged his own unique path.
Giacomo will bring with him a fabulous acclaimed trio. Tim Rayon piano has performed in concert with an extensive list of pop music icons, notably Aretha Franklin and Lyle Lovett. He regularly performs with leading figures in the jazz world, among them Tony Bennett, Kurt Elling, Gary Burton, Esperanza Spalding, Scott Hamilton, Dave Douglas, John Patitucci, Brian Blade, Lewis Nash and Rufus Reid among others.
John Lockwoodon bass has performed with Gary Burton, Eddie Harris, Johnny Hartman, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Dave Liebman, Joe Pass, Danilo Perez, Pharoah Sanders, Carol Sloane, Clark Terry, Kenny Werner, James Williams, and others.
Jim Lattinion drums has performed with renowned jazz artists including Nick Brignola, Bobby Shew, Claudio Roditti, Randy Brecker, Ricky Ford, David “Fat Head” Newman, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, Delfeayo Marsalis, Rebecca Parris, Ken Peplowski, and Terrel Stafford.
