Born and raised in Miami Florida, Melinda Rose Rodriguez knew from a very young age that Music was going to become her life. Melinda started off like any young aspiring musician started off: with general pop music. Going into middle school, she discovered the classical repertoire, and from there trained classically until the age of 17. At 17 years old, she realized that after learning to play the piano and guitar, that popular and classical music did not resonate with her musically. By chance, Melinda fell in love with the music of the 40s, and 50s up until modern jazz. She lent her ear to these styles, and amazing artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Betty Carter etc. The influence of these artists has turned her into the artist she is today. Melinda auditioned on The Voice with “What a Wonderful World.” A really impressive opening prompted quick chair turns from Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani. Melinda turned in a really impressive vocal, but couldn’t quite entice Blake Shelton or John Legend to follow. Gwen called her performance “very creative.” Kelly nailed the fact that Melinda was doing an Eva Cassidy version of the song. Melinda decided to join Team Kelly. Melinda is joined by Poli Club favorites Albert Rivera on sax, and the Matt DeChamplain Trio.
