Jazz Haven is proud to announce that the 2019 Unsung Heroes Award will be presented to Jesse Hameen II. The award presentation will take place on Thursday, November 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Rawa, 838 Whalley Ave, New Haven, CT 06515. Elm City Sounds will be on hand to spin some jazz vinyl sides and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Space is limited. To attend you must RSVP by Thursday, November 11 to firstname.lastname@example.org
Drummer Jesse Hameen II is an accomplished Jazz musician, devoted educator and mentor. Jesse’s goal is to be a “Human Excellence Advocate,” inspiring people through his music and all of his endeavors.
Jesse was born in New Haven, CT. He was raised with Gospel, Afro-Cuban, R&B and Jazz. Jesse left New Haven and performed around the globe for over thirty years with some of the biggest names in the business. He has returned home and is sharing his expertise and knowledge in the Arts community and is inspiring many youth.
Jesse has performed with Lou Donaldson, Grover Washington Jr., Hank Crawford, David “ Fat Head” Newman, Stanley Turrentine, Charles Earland, Jimmy McGriff, Tommy Flanagan, Rodney Jones, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lena Horn, Gloria Lynn, Irene Reid, Curtis Mayfield & the Impression, Leon Thomas, Jimmy Witherspoon, and many, others.
Jesse is currently Chair of the Jazz Department at Neighborhood Music School and Director of the NMS Summer Jazz Program, a Commissioner of Arts and Culture for the City of New Haven and is on the Board of Directors for Jazz Haven.
