DESCRIPTION:Bridging jazz\, klezmer\, rock\, and groove\, Big Brooklyn carries a progressive and inviting presence\, exploring beautiful melodies while defining new boundaries. Awarded Semi-Finalist positions in the UK Songwriting Contest for multiple compositions on their album\, Everyone Everywhere\, as well as being a jazz finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for a song on their first album\, Purpose\, this 5-piece group captivates audiences with a unique depth of passion in expressive melodies and harmonies from jazz and beyond\, touching on the inseparable exultation and pathos of the klezmer sound\, all interwoven over a fabric of jazz and groove that pulls all stops. Big Brooklyn was formed by Willie and Melody Dornfeld. While having New England roots\, they formed the band while in Colorado\, but have since moved back to New England and are excited to be performing in the Northeast. DESCRIPTION: \nJeremy Pelt Quintet\nThe Side Door Old Lyme\, CT\nSaturday\, October 10  •  8 PM – 10 PM\n\n\n\nOne of the preeminent trumpeters of his generation brings his quintet to The Side Door for a night of hard-swinging\, modern jazz. \n\n\n\n\n\nJeremy Pelt – Trumpet\nMykhailo Mendelenko – Guitar\nLasse Corson – Piano\nLeighton Harrell – Bass\nJared Spears – Drums \nJeremy Pelt was born in California in 1976 and began playing trumpet at age five\, studying classical music and piano before a high school jazz band sparked a lifelong devotion to the music. He went on to study jazz improvisation and film scoring at Berklee College of Music\, and forged an early bond with the Mingus Big Band that helped launch a career built on collaborations with some of jazz’s greatest masters\, including Jimmy Heath\, Frank Wess\, Cedar Walton\, Ravi Coltrane\, Nancy Wilson\, and Bobby “Blue” Bland\, among many others. He has also performed with the Roy Hargrove Big Band\, The Village Vanguard Orchestra\, and the Duke Ellington Big Band\, and is currently a member of the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes. \nAs a leader\, Pelt has recorded more than ten albums and toured globally with his various ensembles\, earning him five consecutive Rising Star honors on trumpet from DownBeat Magazine and the Jazz Journalists Association. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal by legendary jazz writer and producer Nat Hentoff\, and JazzTimes has praised him as “a technical marvel” who “executes intricate solos with ease\, plays gorgeous ballads in a tasteful manner\, and never lacks flair or sensitivity.” This is a rare opportunity to experience one of jazz’s most respected trumpeters in an intimate setting. \nThe Side Door Jazz Club is a dedicated jazz listening room located inside the historic Old Lyme Inn\, 85 Lyme Street\, Old Lyme\, CT.
