New York-based trumpeter, cornetist, and vocalist Alex Owen is an in demand sideman, bandleader, and educator. After living in New Orleans for 7 years, Alex moved back to New York, his original home, in the summer of 2019 to pursue a Masters of Music Education at Teachers College. He completed his studies in May of 2021, and he is currently busy performing in New York and the northeast as live music makes its triumphant return. Alex founded the Messy Cookers Jazz Band during his time in New Orleans. The band performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in the Economy Hall tent in April of 2019 and released their latest CD that same month, entitled “Get Out and Get Under the Moon.” Now in New York, Alex books quartets, trios, and duos under his own name and plays many private and public events with groups around the city and in the general northeast area. In August 2022, Alex produced an album by the “Orleans Kids,” an all-star group of traditional jazz musicians from New York, Boston, and Maine. The Orleans Kids perform every summer at the Roaring Twenties Lawn Party in Ipswich, MA and at retirement homes, swing dances, and music venues throughout New England.
